Board Meetings are open to the public and held the second from last Monday each month, at 8:00 pm in the USDA Service Center meeting room. January-Poster/essay due date and judging, February-Annual Meeting, Supervisor elections, Board officer electons, No-till Round Table meeting March- Newsletter, Cost-Share sign-up April-Cut-off date for Brome planting, Soil Stewardship Week, National Volunteer Week, May-Cut-off date for Native grass planting. StreamTeam event, closed Memorial Day June-Newsletter, no Board meeting due to harvest, last fiscal year cost-share projects must be completed or canceled July- New fiscal year cost-share funds become available, closed for 4th August-Annual Work Plan is released September-Newsletter, 4th Grade Field Day, Nominations for Bankers Tour requested October-Bankers Tour November- Poster/Essay Contest in-class presentations begin, State Convention in Wichita, closed Veterans and Thanksgiving day December- Newsletter, Poster/essay contest continues |
One of the goals of the Ottawa County Conservation District is to provide quality conservation education. Please look for these events throughout the year: |
Conservation Edition: Published in the Minneapolis Messenger to coencide with the Annual Meeting. Annual Meeting: A free meal and entertainment is provided. Poster/essay contest and Banker's Tour winners are honored. Board of Supervisors elections are held. No-Till Round table: Provides a forum for no-tillers to share information and tips. Stream Team: Stream sampling activity for Ottawa County sixth graders Ottawa County Fair Booth: Conservaton displays and material are made available. District sponsers a $50 cash prize for winning FFA/4-H conervation related booth. Quarterly Newsletter: Free and jam packed with useful articles, sign up dates, and events. 4th Grade Field Day: Enviromental education for Ottawa County Fourth graders. Poster/Essay contest: In-Class Conservation related programs. Students compete for prizes by completing conservaiton related posters and/or essays. Projects are displayed in the office and at Annual Meeting. Winning projects are sent on to state competition. Bankers Award Tour: Exceptional Stewards are nominated. A public tour is hosted by the district and winners are choosen by tour members and honored with field signs at the Annual Meeting.A bio printed in the annual Conservation edition. Additional programs are added through out the year. |
