Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina. Only 30 minutes up the coast from Myrtle Beach, but it is worlds away from the traffic, high-rise hotels, t-shirt shops, and noise. Ocean Isle Beach is located about half-way between Wilmington, NC and Myrtle Beach, SC. Compared to its neighbors up and down the coast, this barrier island has remained low key. The empasis here is on relaxation: strolling on the beach, swimming in the ocean, fishing in the surf, intercoastal waterway, or pier, and of course, the plentiful golf nearby. This family-oriented beach is the perfect place for the vacationer who wants to leave the city behind. |

Our condo, located in the Mariner's Walk complex at 191 East First Street, has one bedroom and two full baths, and can sleep 6 (one double and a set of bunk beds in the bedroom, and a queen sleeper sofa in the living room). It has a full kitchen with a dishwasher and microwave, cable TV and VCR/DVD. There is a private deck with an ocean view off of the living room. The Mariner's Walk complex is small and quiet, with only 7 units in the main building. There is a common, elevated deck with picnic tables, a pool, and washer/dryer under the units. Our condo is 3 houses down from a public beach access (see pictures on the next page for perspective)
Best of all, on the very affluent island of Ocean Isle Beach, it is affordable! How affordable? Consider this comparison. There are very few hotels on the island, but one, The Winds, is about 1/2 mile down the beach from us. During the summer, one room with two double beds and an "island view" balcony (i.e., not facing the ocean) costs $1358.00 for two adults (check yourself at www.thewinds.com). With us, you get a condo with a full kitchen (no need to eat every meal in a restaurant!) and separate bedroom (put the kids to bed early!) for considerably less. |
