After a leave I returned to Bainbridge for 34 weeks of school Then a other leave and reported to MY 1st Ship  |
We sailed from Norfolk 3 September 1957 and, after arrival at Plymouth, England, 14 September, then to the North Atlantic Then to Cherbourg, France (1-11 October). We returned to Norfolk 22 October 1957 Then 24 February 1958. We steamed to Key West, Florida, returned to Norfolk, 13 April 1958. Then I put in for transfer to The USS Morton DD-948 a new ship While waiting for the ship to be build,,I went to 8 weeks school at Great Lakes Ill. In Feb of 59 returned to Charleston SC in April 59 to take the USS Morton on shake down cruises | |
 COMMISSIONED MAY 26 1959 AT CHARLESTON, SC Then we had a Caribbean cruise Then homeport of San Deigo, CA. by way of Panama Canal Then a Pacific cruise Hawaii, Japan,hong Kong,Bombay and crossed the equator Then back to San Deigo,,I was a FTL-3 woked on Mark 56 & Mark 70 I got out of the navy July of 1960 | |
Got a job at Corning Glass in Bradford Pa. married Gloria Jean Cook in Bradford 11-11-61 divorced Gloria (no children) married Romaine Ford 2-28-64 had three children and now have 7 grandchildren Romaine died Feb. 18-1987 was buried Pine Grove Cemetery Russell Pa. remarried Sue Starcher in August 1996,, Sue died Oct 2,98 was buried Parkersburg WV .
