The Old Lead Region Historical Society meets at least three times per year, with its Annual Meeting held each November.

Throughout the calendar year, meetings are usually held on the first Sunday of February, May, and November unless otherwise scheduled. All meetings are held in accordance with the Society's Constitution and By-laws.

Society meetings normally are held at the Stockade Restaurant and Pub, 855 Lexington Blvd., Fort Atkinson Wisconsin, (920) 568-9498. Meetings start at 12 Noon, unless otherwise scheduled.

Announcing the May 2006 Meeting!

The next meeting of the Old Lead Region Historical Society will be held on Saturday, May, 28 2006 at 6:30 p.m., at the "Old Stockade" Rock River Park, Fort Atkinson, WI. A tentative agenda will be forthcoming. Please contact the Secretary if you need help or assistance.

Our guest speaker will be Mr. James Patton III. Mr. Patton's topic will be "Abraham Lincoln in the Black Hawk War." Mr. Patton has had a long and distinguished career as a profession historian, and served for many years as the "State Blacksmith" at Lincoln's New Salem State Historic Site. His command of the people, places, events, and culture in early Illinois is outstanding! Jim is both a personable and engaging speaker, and one not to be missed!

DIRECTIONS:
From Janesville and South: Take Route 26 north through Milton and continue north until Route 26 becomes a bypass. Continue past the "Business 26" exit to the Route 106 exit. Take the exit and turn right (east) on 106 toward Fort Atkinson. Go one mile, and turn left on Park Street (look for sign for "Rock River Aquatics Center.") You will see Old Fort to your right-front. follow road until it turns sharply to right, but stay STRAIGHT and go into small parking lot behind fort. Follow trail to fort, (you are ewntering the BACK of the fort) and look for the OLRHS set up in/around the Southeast Blockhouse (to right of main fort gate as you look at it.)

From Grayslake, IL and southeast: Follow U. S. 12 to Fort Atkinson. Stay on U. S. 12 as it becomes South Main Street. Stay on Main Street, cross the Rock River, get in the left hand turn lane and turn left on Sherman Avenue (Route 106.) Follow Sherman Ave. west-- the street forks after three blocks, please bear to the LEFT onto Riverside Drive. Stay on 106 to Traffic light at Robert Street. Go straight on Riverside Drive (106) for several intersections, passing Monroe, Shirley, Lucile, Wilson Drive. Past Wilson, turn right at next true street, which will be Park Drive. Follow as above.

From Madison and west: Follow U. S. 12 east from Madison Beltline, passing through Cambridge and continuing on to Fort Atkinson. At the ramp for the Route 26 bypass, take the bypass SOUTH towards Milton. Go past the U. S. 12 exit and continue to the Highway 106 exit. Take exit ramp and turn left (east) toward Fort. Follow as above for "Janesville" directions.

From Milwaukee and north: Take Route 26 exit off the Interstate at the Johnson Creek interchange. Follow Route 26 south through Johnson Creek (watch your speed!) and Jefferson. South of Jefferson, ROute 26 becomes a bypass. Take the Route 26 bypass south, past the the U. S. 12 exit and continue to the Highway 106 exit. Take exit ramp and turn left (east) toward Fort. Follow as above for "Janesville" directions.


Meetings of the Old Lead Region Historical Society are open to all persons interested in the history of early Illinois and Wisconsin, the United States Lead Mines of the Upper Mississippi, the Red Bird uprising, the Black Hawk War, and so forth.

Membership is not required to attend a Society meeting--- however, only "members in good standing" have and maintain voting rights at Society meetings, in accordance with the By-laws.
