*Captain John Henry Roundtree resigned his captaincy on June 17, 1832, claiming that his command was "too small." Colonel Henry Dodge then enlisted Roundtree's aid as a purchasing agent, and sent him to Galena "to furnish sufficient arms, ammunition, and provisions to those who were in Fort Dodge at Platteville as should stand in need." Command of the company devolved on Joseph Dickson, and the command was mustered in on June 17 and subsequently designated a "Spy Company" by Dodge.Presumably, the arms, ammunition, and provisions procured by Rountree went to supply Fort Dodge's new garrison-- a company of volunteer militia infantry commanded by Captain Irvin O'Harra.
