Today
as you turn 70,
I rejoice
in the stroke of luck,
I had
when I first saw you,
Drive
up in that old milk truck.
“Who
is that?” I asked them,
My thoughts
all in a-whirl;
“Why
that,” they all informed me,
“Is
Mrs. Cousins' girl.”
And that,
my dearest Gwenda,
Is the
day that changed my life:
And
I could ask for no one better,
To have
as my own dear wife.
Oh we
have had our rough times,
But
we have seen them through;
And
we have had our good times,
Well,
maybe just a few.
But you
have stood beside me.
Through
the troubles, sickness and strife;
And
I’m here to tell you now,
That,
to me, you’re the perfect wife.
You have
borne us two fine children,
And
through your tender care
They
have given back to us,
A pride
that we both do share.
As poor
health now encroaches,
I know
we will see it through;
And
be thankful every morning,
We have
seen the past night through.
And as
we now grow older,
I thank
the Lord above;
For
all your tender care,
And
the gift of your sweet love.
So now,
my very dearest girl,
At this
stage in my life,
The
greatest treasure that I have,
Is you,
my darling wife.
