Kate Genre: Drama Rated: PG (Mood and slight violence) kachinamekenzi_79@yahoo.com 5-30-00 Summery:Janeway falls asleep one night on Voyager and wakes up 200 years in the past. Much of this fan fic takes place on 21st century around the time that guns were of great use. Janeway gets the chance to see what her home was really like 200 years ago. Janeway walking down the corridor late at night, she rubs her tired eyes and sighs at the dull ache resting in her temples. Chakotay strides and catches up with the exhausted captain. "Kathryn, how was the Beta Shift?" "Don't even go there, I am to exhausted to even discuss it with you." "Been there, done that, after all it could have been worse." Janeway gives him that death glare that straightens curley hair. "Do you have a headache again Kathryn?" Janeway looks at him with pained eyes and nods. "That makes four this week, have you been to see the Doctor?" "Yes, all he does is give a hypo and "Call me in the Morning" look. I don't think his medication is working any longer. I still keep getting these migraines." Chakotay hesitently brings his arms up. Janeway walks into them. "I tried everything Chakotay; the pain just will not go away." "Have you talked to the doctor recently, I mean about them no longer being headaches they are now migraines, has he given you something? Janeway nods. "But it is not working, maybe there is something more serious wrong." Chakotay sighs and strokes Janeway's hair. "Just try and get some rest perhaps by tomorrow your headache will be gone." "I will try." As they part soon after they reach her quarters she gives him a smile. "Tomorrow morning? Breakfast?" "Why yes of course, now I had better get to Night Patrol." ************************************************************************************** Janeway stirs in her sleep and soon awakens frightened at first, it was not VOYAGER. Soft snoring next to her catches her attention. "Where am I?" The man next to her stirs soon after he awakens. "Chakotay!?!" He looks around and he again notices he is not aboard VOYAGER. "Where are we?" "I was hoping you would know, don't you?" "No, I don't." Both sit up and look at each other. "If we are here, are we..." Both look at their left hand. They both see two white gold bands. "Married!" Both saying it in unison. "Oh my what are we doing here?" "Maybe we are here for a reason." "Chakotay are we dreaming?" "I don't think so, remember you were going to bed and I was going to the Bridge for the next shift so we must have gotten caught in something." Janeway sighs contently as fluttering in her abdomen catches her attention. She pulls off the covers and looks at her body underneath the silken gown. "Oh my God Chakotay! I am pregnant!" "What we were always so careful." "No, it's the person I am portraying, she is the one who is expecting, not me." "Oh, my what are we going to do?" Janeway asks nearly panicing. But she calms herself down and recovers. "I guess you are going to have this baby." "I think that I am about seven months pregnant." Janeway strokes her stomach, and gasps at the response it makes. "The baby it's moving. This is facinating, I have never felt so wonderful in my life, well not counting when I got assigned to command VOYAGER." Chakotay smiles, Janeway nods. "Here, do you feel that, it's right here." She takes Chakotay's hand and places in on her right side. "Do you feel that, I think this baby is going to be a very strong baby, must get that from his father." "Yeah wow, that's a pretty hard kick, does it hurt?" "No, it sorta feels like butterflies in my stomach." "We had better get ready and see what we can find out. Come on Kathryn lets go." Janeway nods, they both get out of bed and to the bathroom. Soon water is turned on and giggleing continues they are starting to like being husband and wife. This incident may help them to become closer. After a morning of finding out where they are and why they are here they only find out the flollowing. The have been married for 11 years and have been trying to concieve for over three years. This child Janeway is carrying is due in a littlen less then 2 months. Its a miracle she concieved at all. Their names are the same and Chakotay is a Native American tribe but born from a white woman. "Well what did you think of "this" life?" "Well, at least our names are the same." "Kathryn, are you sure you can handle having a baby?" "Well, I would be lying if I told you I was totally ready. This is the 21st century medical knowledge is not nearly as advanced." "Yes, in this century childbirth is safe but there are some complications that can arrive." "Chakotay, I always wanted children and in the 24th century few died but here many can die. I am frightened but I am ready." ************************************************************************************** Two months have gone by the baby is two weeks overdue. Janeway is writing n the baby's baby book. Chakotay is next to her while together they look upon the book. "Wow, look at this, we found out on Thanksgiving we were pregnant. I wrapped up the home pregnancy test inside a box, see you smile when you found out about the baby. You knew but you never told me." "And look here, our first sonogram two weeks later, it tells us your due date is June 29th, look how small, I can't even see it." "You need to look harder, see... that's its head and here is its arms and legs." They turn the page to reveal another sonogram, one taken at 20 weeks." "Can you see it Chakotay?" "No, can you?" "Well yes, of course its head its spine arms and legs." "To bad we couldn't tell if its a boy or girl." "I'm glad we don't know, because if we did we couldndn't be surprised besides most expectant mothers didn't want to know." "Here's the latest sonogram we just got it ready to be put on the last sonogram page. The baby has turned but is still high and you are two weeks overdue." "That's why we need to go to the hospital they will induce my labor by giving me an IV drug called Potoesen." "Are you ready to have a baby the old fasion way?" "I think so, now we had better pick out a name for the baby." "I have the perfect name for a girl, Autumn Nicole, what do you think?" "I like it Kathryn, and for a son, um mm, Oh I know Austin James, how is that name?" " i love it, then we agree." "Yes, now lets go to bed we need to be at the hospital at 6:30 AM sharp ************************************************************************************** At 6:30 AM sharp, Chakotay and Janeway arrived at the hospital at 7:30 AM dressed and hooked up to monitors. Potoeson is being administered her contractions have begun but are not regular yet. "Kathryn, every 15 minutes we will be upping you drip until the contractions become regular." "Yes, thats fine. Nurse how long do you think the labor will last?" "The first stage of labor could last up to 36 hours, but some women have more breif labors." "I hope I am one of those lucky women." A line on the fetal monitor rises Janeway takes in a sharp breath. "I think I'm having a contraction." "You are now breath through it." Janeway nods 15 seconds later its over. "It's over." A grouling 27 hours later Janeway is exhausted she hasn't slept in the time neither has Chakotay. She remains at 9.5 centimeters dilitation the baby has come down so she may be able to dialate the rest of the way. "Are you ready for the delivery Kathryn?" Dr. Bader asks as Janeway nods. "I don't have much of a choice now do I Doctor?" "I suppose, but it can be frightening for the first time mother." As she finishes a difficult contraction causes Janeway to gasp. Chakotay takes her hand. "Remember your breathing is the key." Janeway nods, a nameless nurse places an oxgen mask on Kathryn's face. "This should help you get enough oxygen for your baby." "Thank you." As she breaths through the contraction. ************************************************************************************** Another two hours and she is at complete dilitation. "Okay, I just checked you, you are fully dialated and efaced Kathryn you may start to push. Each time you have a contraction I want you to push." Janeway nods, she arches her body. "I'm having a contraction, oooo, Chakotay help me." Chakotay comes to her aide. She breaths in one deep breth, and begins to push. Chakotay counts to ten and after several ,minutes the contraction ends "Are you okay?" "Yes, I just wnt to see our baby." "You aren't the only one, it has been quite an experience and soon we'll see our baby." "Come on, lets try and see our baby within the next few hours." ************************************************************************************** Three hours later the baby hasn't arrived. After pushing for three hours Janeway is to tiredto go on. "The baby has shifted position, it's head is still down but has moved higher in the birth canal. We will need to perform a ceasaren section the baby seems to be in distress, everytime you have a contraction the heartbeat goes down," "If you do the c-section, will the baby be okay?" "Yes, we can have it out in 2 minutes if something goes worng." "Then lets do it." Janeway nods, and Chakotay is taken and put in blue scrubs. jhanway is prepped for sugery with the blue tarp up by the time Chakotay returns. "Well lets get our baby out so we can finally see it." Janeway nods a mask is placed on her as well as two IV's, one for medication the other fluids." Several minutes later, the incisions are complete. "Okay, we are ready to see this baby, are you excited?" "Yes!" Dr. Bader sticks her hands inside Janeway's womb, little blood oozes out but soon we see the baby's head, full head of blond hair emerge. But the umbilical cord is wrapped around its neck. "The baby's cord is wrapped around the neck, but I think I can get it out, its very loose but needs to be done to prevent any complications." Bader pulls the cord from around the neck after that hte baby comes our smoothly." "It's a..." "Girl!" Chakotay interupts "A Girl!" Janeway says her voice excited. ************************************************************************************** The next day Janeway is still asleep Chakotay is holding his new baby daughter. Janewa slowly opens her eyes. "Hey, is that the baby?" "Yes, she is healthy and beautiful." "How much did she weigh?" "Six pounds eight ounces, she was 18 inces long." "That's so small, wow she is finally here. I want to hold her bring her to me Chakotay." Chakotay nods, Janeway tries to get up but pain prevents her from doing that task. "No just lay back down, I wil bring her to your arms." Janeway nods and Chakotay places the baby in her arms. "If you ask me I think she looks a lot like her mother." "Yeah, she does, well look at our daughter Chakotay look at Autumn Nicole, Shes perfect." "That I agree with." *** 11 Years later Autumn is a sixth grader and has been every mothers dream.
