Randolph Hames, was born about 1650 in England and died
about 1710 in Old Rappahannock County, Virginia. He married Charity Hames about 1680 in England. Randolph Hames is first found in the Old Rappahannock County General Index - Grantee 1654-1695, which shows "Haymes, Randal, 1680-88, p. 144" and the
North Farnham Parish records show "Hames, Anne, daughter of Randolph and Charity Hames, born 22 August 1686". The index of Old Rappahanock County County Order Book No. 1, 1683-1686 shows:

Winifred Fann 26 Nov 1730 in Virginia, the daughter of John and Mary Fann; and 2. Winifred Gathings Fann McKinney 2 Oct 1752 in Richmond County, Virginia, the daughter of John Gathings.
While this sounds like he married the same person twice, Winifred's brother Henry married Winifred Gathings, and after his
death she married William McKenney and after his death and the
death of Winifred Fann Hames, William married his former sister in law. In 1737 William bought a farm "next door" to his father's land from Edward Allgood "for the sum of 5 shillings and several good causes do give and grant a certain parcel of land --- on the branches of Totuskey Creek --- bounded by a marked poplar standing in the branches that divide the said Allgood's land from the land of William Hames, Senr. and running --- containing 10 acres of land and all houses, woods, water courses, swamps, marshes and meadows." William and Winifred sold these 10 acres in 1746. William, Jr.'s will written in 1756 is the first document to show his name as William Haymes, Senior. Only two of his sons, Edmond and John, retained the "y", the others kept the original spelling.
