In Loving Memory of
SEAN McKITRICK
November 28, 1984 - April 28, 2004

Sean with his beautiful laugh.

These are two beautiful and loving gifts for Angel Sean from my dear friend, Carol, mom to Angel Michael.

Sean had many varied interests. When he was little, he was my "Sean-e-pooh-bear." Sean had so many interests that it's hard to narrow them down. I'm making a quilt square for him and found some artwork that symbolizes the many facets of his life. I don't have a specific symbol for him, but below are some of the symbols I found to put on the quilt square I am making for him.

COMPUTER. Sean was a Computer Science major in college and taught himself to program in middle school. I hired him one summer when he was 14 or 15, and he designed and maintained our company website. He would always fix my computer and show me how to do new things.

Sean loved MOVIES. He wanted to be a screenwriter and in his words, "make a difference in people's lives through film." Before our second son, Benjamin, was born, we watched movies every night. Sean's first job was at Blockbuster and he could always have two movies out at any time. He used to say, "What are we watching for dinner tonight?" Every year we would make sure to see all the "best picture" nominees, discuss and review the movies after we watched them, and made a big deal out of watching the Academy Awards every year.

Sean was a writer. He wrote beautiful poetry, short stories, science fiction, and had started a few novels and screenplays.

Sean played the saxophone in middle school, in his high school marching band, and his first year in college in the marching band. He never really practiced and his sax playing wasn't all that great -- he didn't do it for fun, but he was PERFECTLY PRECISE in his marching, and enjoyed the challenge of marching and making all kinds of complicated designs WHILE playing.

BOOKS. Sean learned to read early and always loved reading. He read a lot of mysteries, science fiction, fantasy, and warrior books, among others.

PHILOSOPHY. Sean loved philosophy, and enjoyed discussing life. He liked MC Escher and his prints. I think this was one of his favorites, symbolic of the intertwined-ness between the individual and the universe.

GAMES. Sean loved all kinds of games, from Monopoly at age 2 (and he was the banker -- could make change for any property! -- his first genius was math), to all kinds of board games, collectible card games, Dungeons and Dragons, Playstation and Nintendo, and computer games. He considered himself a "gamer" and he was a nationally ranked "Magic the Gathering" player.

MUSIC. Sean didn't really like music until preadolescence. He used to tell Jeff and me to "turn down the music!" We took him to a Billy Joel concert and later a Pink Floyd laser light show and he began to develop a wide taste in music. He liked a lot of the old rock-and-roll that Jeff and I listen to, but he also liked some unusual stuff -- Dream Theater, Ozzie Ozborne. He never liked rap or pop music, thank goodness. He loved to find a new song and play it for me on the computer.

COMEDY. Sean loved things that made him laugh. He had such a beautiful laugh; he laughed with his whole being. He had great timing, and remembered and told jokes very well. He would have made a great standup comedian.

Sean had good taste. In Friends, Music, Movies, Books, Food. And he had so much character. He would stand up for the underdog, argue anything with anybody, and play devil's advocate. Sean had tons of character, he was very supportive of those he cared about and was "always there" for his friends, kind and considerate.

By Diana Kulas, Sean's Mom Forever

Such a precious little boy.

Sean was an old soul at birth, my perpetual "birthday present," born the day before my 22nd birthday. He was always beautiful, smart, loving, and compassionate. Sean loved to debate anything with anyone and made everyone laugh. His was a beautiful laugh; he laughed with his whole being. He had perfect timing when telling jokes,
a great sense of humor, and enjoyed "pun" contests.

My "Sean-e-Pooh-Bear"

Sean was a philosopher at heart and discussed the meaning of life, origins of the universe, and the futility of mankind from an early age. He knew something about everything. His great intelligence and analytical abilities were his enemies in the public school system. Sean despised homework, repetition, and any waste of his time.
Maybe he knew he didn't have much time here on Earth.

I wonder if Sean plays his saxaphone in Heaven.

Sean played Saxophone and marched in his High School Band. He was always precise and perfectionistic. Sean could and did research and teach himself anything he was interested in. He left high school after his junior year and was admitted to the honors program at the nearby state university. Sean battled depression from his early teens, although he would fiercely deny it.

He wrote screenplays, poetry, novels, and short stories and his dream was to make a difference in people's lives through movies. He loved all games: board games, sega and nintendo, computer games, and CCGs. Sean called himself a "gamer" and was a nationally-ranked "Magic the Gathering" player. He loved to program text-based computer games and spent hours developing scenarios for Dungeons and Dragons.

My handsome son!

Jeff, world class stepfather, Sean, and Mom.

Sean treated all people with dignity and respect and valued the inherent worth of all living things. He was fair and honest with all people, loyal to his friends and always went out of his way to help people he cared about. Sean never judged anyone by their appearance and had more depth of character than anyone I have ever known. He taught me what love is. He positively impacted many people in his nineteen years
and I miss him terribly.

Mom and Sean in happier days.

Sean and baby brother, Benjamin.

I am dreading April. Every nice Spring-like day we have, I just get more depressed, knowing that Spring will come without Sean. April 28th, 2004, the day my beautiful Sean died, was a perfect Spring day. Blue sky, fresh cool breeze, birds chirping, everything coming to life but Sean. They say more suicides happen in the Spring than any other time ... Supposedly the contrast between the world coming to life and
your own dark feelings that you can't escape ... Sort of a '*permanent winter.*

The day after Sean died, we had the police take us to the exact spot where they found him. It was a long, forced march way back into the depths of the park. It was another beautiful Spring day. I sat where I thought Sean last sat, his last place to sit forever. I heard the birds and felt the breezes he must have felt as his last sensations on earth. Those, and then the bullet that wrecked his beautiful mind
and destroyed his physiological ability to live.

Winter has settled in my heart and in my soul ... And not a *good* winter
with snow and bright sunny days. It's a cold and dreary winter,
with overcast skies and constant gloomy, cold drizzle.

Mom (Diana) and Sean.

Safely Home

I am home in Heaven, dear ones;
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is perfect joy and beauty
In this everlasting light.

All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever,
Safely home in Heaven at last.

Did you wonder I so calmly
Trod the valley of the shade?
Oh! but Jesus' love illumined
Every dark and fearful glade.

And He came Himself to meet me
In that way so hard to tread;
And with Jesus' arm to lean on,
Could I have one doubt or dread?

Then you must not grieve so sorely,
For I love you dearly still:
Try to look beyond earth's shadows,
Pray to trust our Father's Will.

There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand;
Do it now, while life remaineth--
You shall rest in Jesus' land.

When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting,
Oh, the joy to see you come!

The Broken Chain

We did not know that morning that God was going to call your name.
In life we loved you dearly, in death the same.
It broke our hearts to lose you, you did not go alone,
for part of us went with you
the day God called you home.
You left us peaceful memories, your love is still our guide,
and though we cannot see you, you are always by our side.
Our family chain is broken, and nothing seems the same,
but as GOD calls us one by one,
the CHAIN will link again.

MOMENTS IN LIFE

There are moments in life
when you miss someone so much
that you just want to pick them from your dreams
and hug them for real!

Sean, my precious son forever.
I love you, baby.

Precious Child
Words and music by Karen Taylor-Good

In my dreams, you are alive and well
Precious child, precious child
In my mind, I see you clear as a bell
Precious child, precious child

In my soul, there is a hole that can never be filled
but in my heart, there is hope
‘cause you are with me still
In my heart, you live on, always there, never gone

Precious child, you left too soon
Though it may be true that we're apart
you will live forever... in my heart

In my plans, I was the first to leave
Precious child, precious child
But in this world, I was left here to grieve
Precious child, my precious child

In my soul, there is a hole that can never be filled
but in my heart there is hope
and you are with me still
In my heart you live on, always there, never gone

Precious child, you left too soon
though it may be true that we're apart
you will live forever... in my heart

God knows I want to hold you, see you, touch you
and maybe there's a heaven,
and someday I will again
Please know you are not forgotten until then
In my heart you live on, always there never gone

Precious child, you left too soon
though it may be true that we're apart
you will live forever... in my heart

Dear Diana and ANGEL Sean

Mom I am your ANGEL
That now lives up above
Mom I haven't left you
Every day I send you my love

I know you can't see me
And that really hurts you
But I am with you every day
So please don't feel down and blue

One day we will all be together
But you must not keep asking
Just like me I had done my time
Only GOD knows
And in HIM you must BELIEVE AND TRUST
I LOVE YOU MOM
