Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla

The Scripps Memorial Hospital at La Jolla is one of the many locations of Scripps Health. It was established in 1924 in downtown La Jolla, and it has been in its present facility since 1964. Scripps Health is a not-for-profit, community-based health care delivery network that includes over 2,000 affiliated physicians, six acute-care and two convalescent hospitals, numerous outpatient facilities, home health care, and associated support services. Scripps is regarded as San Diego's premier health care provider.

The Scripps network actually began in 1924 when Ellen Browning Scripps founded the Scripps Memorial Hospital and Scripps Metabolic Clinic in La Jolla. Ever since then, it has made a positive difference in the health of the individuals in La Jolla, with quality, cost effective, socially responsible health care programs.

From Interstate 5

Exit on Genesee Avenue and turn east. Go to first traffic light, then turn right onto the Scripps campus.

From Interstate 805

Exit on Miramar Road/La Jolla Village Drive and proceed west on La Jolla Village Drive. Turn right onto Genesee Avenue. Stay for on mile, and tun left on the Scripps campus.


Salk Institute for Biological Studies

The Salk Institute in La Jolla is one of the world's foremost independent non-profit institutions conducting basic science research dedicated to the improvement of human health. It was founded by Jonas Salk in 1960. The Salk Institute's two major areas of study are molecular biology and genetics, and the neurosciences. Recently, the Institute was ranked number one worldwide in both of these areas by the Philadelphia-based Institute for scientific information.

Scientists at the Salk Institute are striving to discover the origins of cancer, AIDS, Alzheimer's disease, cardiovascular disorders, Parkinson's disease, and numerous others. At present, there are 54 Faculty members, which is supported by a staff of more than 700.

Directions to the Salk Institute for Biological Studies
From Interstate 5, exit on Genesee Avenue and head west. Drive uphill and through two traffic lights moving into the far left lane. Turn left at the third light onto North Torrey Pines Road. Drive south 1/8 mile along the UCSD campus, until the Salk Institute becomes visible to the right.
