Gold Beach
Gold Beach was the assignment of the Brittish 50th Northumbrian Division and the 8th Armored Brigade, accompanied by the Royal Marine Commando unit, whose job was to swing west ans take the near by town of Arromanches as a base for the Brittish mulberry harbor.  The weather was similar to that at Omaha and like at Omaha it was decided not to launch DD tanks to sea, but to land them directly behind the infantry. Problems occured when the the wind picked up causing the water to rise faster than expected and not as many obstacles were cleared as expected, and as a result succesive waves at to pick there way through the explosive obstacle course, and many vessels were damaged in the process.  The Gold Beach was still won.  The specialist armor landed before the infantry and the amphibious tanks landed behind contributed alot to the victory.
