V-Mail Click to the left to view a V-Mail Dan sent home to his brother. |
Newspaper Notice To the left is a Newspaper notice in the Ottawa paper. |
This picture was recently taken at "Omaha Beach" cemetery. This is what you could say the evolution of on man's war. Much thanks to his nephew, Mike McGinnis for providing this information. He remains proud to say, "this was my Uncle Dan" |
To the left is a three part letter Dan sent home just before the invasion. It is described by his nephew as follows. "My father and his family grew up in a small town in Illinois (Ottawa-pop.18,000) and this explains the reference to the two friends being killed in the war. It is understandable that Dan couldn't relate exactly the training they were going through, as they invasion was just 10 days off, and he himself had just 13 days to live. My father never did get the clarification of what training they were going through. I was born 5 years after my Uncle Dan was killed in the war, and so never met him. He was my father's little brother and apparently very close. I'll always remember that, as a child Dan was mentioned as Uncle Dan, and that the tone was one of reverance and sincere loss." |
