Our day at the Homestead race...Nov. 11, 2001
Well, Charlie DID manage to keep Brandon and Anita under control until the race.  It was a perfect Florida day for the race.  We had seen on the internet that Gene Simmons was going to be the Grand Marshall at the Busch race, on Saturday, and Brandon was kinda disappointed about that.  But,  he was there on Sunday, as well, as the honorary Grand Marshall, so Brandon was over-joyed.
The seats we chose to order couldn't have been better if we were at the track, picking them!  We were seated just past the start/finish line, 4 rows up ..AND... we were just diagonal from Sterling's pit, so we got to see everything!
It was a WONDERFUL weekend, and we are looking forward to going to another race!
And now....on to the pics of the race!
Bill Elliot wins...well, it wasn't Sterling, but at least it was a Dodge  ;-)  Sterling finished 5th, by the way, so it was a good race..we got to see Gene, Sterling, AND watch our favorite driver get another top 5 finish!

The guy dressed in all black is Gene Simmons.  I know it is hard to tell, but, honest, it is him.  I looked over at Brandon when they introduced him, and he was smiling from ear to ear!  That, in itself, made the whole trip worthwhile!
History in the making, if you ask anyone in OUR house, anyway...Gene Simmons shaking Sterling Marlin's hand during the driver introductions.
Since it was Veteran's day,, each driver rode in a military truck around the track, to wave to fans.  Here is Sterling, waving to his fans.
What an AWESOME sight this was!  The cars, all lined up, ready to go out on the track.
Pits Stops....who woulda thought they could be soooooooo nerve-racking?
The pit stops.  OMG, you know on tv, when you are watching the race, and it seems like those guys just FLY around that car?  To see it in person, you are like...come ON...why are you being so slow?  (And I know they were moving just as fast as they are when we watch on tv)  It is so different, to be there and watch it.  You see the drivers ahead peeling out and your driver is still up on the jack.  Verrrrrry nerve-racking!
It is AWESOME to watch the cars coming in and going out of pit road, all at the same time!

The #40 car truly IS a pretty car
Passing Rusty Wallace..I guess we were positioned just in the right place, because almost all of his passes, he made right in front of us!
And so, that was our day at the race.  We hope you enjoyed our story!
Stay tuned, and we will post more pics from the NEXT race we go to!  woooohooooo!
