Prophets

All you prophets in the audience tonight:
Shut your ears
while I commit a little drivel
I'm counting on your human nature
to listen anyway;
I say this as a child of God.
What's up with this
"Get it together or die?"
Does life mean that much to you?
Of course not; you'd all be martyrs.
Until that time comes, I've found,
despite some contradictory past actions,
that it means more to me than nothing
or you wouldn't see me up here,
ranting about love and the meaning of life.
I could've also escaped,
if you call Hell escape,
years ago, before I learned
to play guitar or bass, paint,
or had two kids.
How's that for creative?
I'd have left behind a small, small legacy.
So for those of you who can't
wait on God's time,
or who can for yourselves but
have little tolerance for the struggles of others,
who believe sincerely that
lightening-flash, never-look-back
bolts from the blue from God
are the rule and pinnacle of existence,
I commend you, and I hope you gain
a little wisdom.
Our past is part of us,
because we need it as a lesson.
Else God would erase our memories
as well as our sins with each repentance.
If your idea of unconditional love
is telling someone they may as well go
out with a bang because, after all,
"You've been through this before,
didn't you learn anything?"
Well, go on, go on with God even,
but go alone, And you will be.
Prophets, I don't dispute you are needed,
I need you at times,
but in this case I will never agree, EVER.
Not me, as I am nothing,
but the prayer warrior,
who never gives up,
and the merciful,
for whom there is always another day
and another chance.
