What Color of Glasses
                            Do You Wear?

Just look at that straight, flat road in front of you.

We are taught what to think
& also what not to think
& certainly what not to do.

This is boring.
So we go for a joyride, stall out, and maybe
spend a couple nights in the ditch.
We decide that the unending dogma
we've been force-fed is all wrong.
I'm right you're wrong
'"turn or burn"
repent or
go to hell in your little hand-basket.

The danger in having seen through all that attitude
is in the almost certainty of becoming
       its opposite extreme.
Easy. We're weak and petty,
believing more in fairy tales than reality.
On the other hand, we're stronger than we think
& yet afraid to admit it; & why not?
It's pretty strange fodder these days;
being responsible for one's own actions.
We are blessed, yes, about as much as
we bless, so why don't we own it?

It is a very circuitous road for anyone...

We are taught to pray, and we try so hard,
    soul-raking & reaching till
we are wasted, trying to latch on to something...
    Why?

No one gives us an answer but
    our own selves
    (or sometimes our fellow man/woman).

Sometimes, then, we take our own strength to hand,
    ...and then back down,
having been told it's not ours,
    that we're unimportant,
    meaningless, even.

Why can't your normal average intelligent person
look at their life and say, "That's bad,"
       when they have done something
       to hurt themself or when
       they are hurting somebody else
and change it, either immediately or gradually?

Why can't that same person
    look at their life,
see all the areas & issues they've worked on
       & improved & strived for
& be able to feel a guilt-free sense of
accomplishment?
Why should we need help or guidance
    besides intuition, common sense, and
the advise of those who have been there already?
(Not to mention, why do we let ourselves
keep a hierarchy of poeple we would NOT
    want nosing in our lives,
    and call them leaders?
We like to undercut ourselves sometimes,
I guess, and it's something to work on,
    not proliferate.)

We are taught to draw on all resources
especially ourselves & our supernatural abilites
    to answer our own questions
& to be & do right,
    & we call it...God.

Small wonder we've made so many roadblocks
    for ourselves.
Hey, He (or whatever) even took credit for that.
