The above plan shows the main rooms that were completed in the palace. There are two suites of rooms in Herrenchiemsee - the 'Parade Rooms' (1 - 8) and the 'Royal Apartments' (9 - 13). The former were designed as a monument to Louis XIV and the original Versailles that he built. The latter were the rooms created for Ludwig to actually occupy. In many respects, the unfinished rooms were never envisioned to be completed.
