The Exchange
From across the room You singled me out Our first exchange defeated Without a doubt
Weeks passed before we met again Then only briefly to make amends Words spoken yet not exchanged It was clear it wasn't arranged
The bond formed quickly The friendship grew swiftly We were committed without question It was understood without suggestion
Adjoined as one being Without really seeing That honesty was lacking Trust was slacking
Blinded by disguise Admitting the lies Ignited by shame Initiating the pain
The painful reality Destroyed the ability For the dream to survive For the friendship to thrive
Our feelings shifted The bond drifted Yet forever connected In a way unexpected
Across the room now Sharing an unspoken vow Coexisting in our hearts In our minds we never part
Yet it must be this way Together we can't stay Nothing can change that Nothing can rearrange that
Observing from a distance Forever in resistance In knowing from the start We were destined to part
