This is my Hubby of 45 years, THE BEAR DREAMER. In accordance with Indian tradition, he is a healer and protector of the environment. As he dreams of the magnificent Great Bear, he becomes a Great Warrior and, a Great Healer and so nurtures the next generation who will follow in his paw prints. He retired from a manufacturing company in Indiana, General Electric Plastics, where he was the product steward. He now does consulting from our desk overlooking this beautiful lake. And he is very active in the local Rotary Club and a group called The Three Lake Association. Again, he is . protecting the environment, specifically our beautiful Torch Lake. He and a group of interns and scientists go out on the lake and run experiments checking the quality of the lake. He continues to be involved in township issues that affect our lake.It is good work.
He is retired, but works a great deal as a consultant on environmental issues for his former employer and has formed his own LLC, called BEST, or Branson Environmental Services on Torch Lake. He is also involved with a small start up company through Purdue University, called LifePlusTox. Through this company he helps with the regulatory issues involving chemicals going into China. This is a rather new venture for him. This keeps him busy at his computer over looking our lake and I sit along side at my computer, enjoying making web pages and writing new poems. This is a pretty good life.
God is the center of our lives, we were brought up Lutherans and Baptists, and were members of a United Methodist Church, for 10 years due to our location in Indiana. We have retired to a very small community in Northwest Michigan and searched for some time for just the right church. We visited many in the surrounding area and when we visited Calvary Lutheran ELCA in Elk Rapids, we knew we had found our home. We had always been active participating members in our other church so are doing the same at Calvary. The love of family and friends was very important in our decision to move back to Michigan to retire. Our two sons live about 2 and a half hours from us, in different directions. Our daughter is just an hour away. We have 4 wonderful grandchildren and because of where we live, we get to see soccer, football or LaCrosse games and band recitals or dance and gymnastic performances. And because we live on a lake, we have many visits during the summer time.
GO BLUE . Well, just to be fair, GO SPARTANS
THINGS THAT MAKE MY WORLD GO 'ROUND
There are so many things I like to do and usually keep very busy with many projects. The computer has crept into my life, even though I was kicking and screaming against it, back in 1998. Now I find that I have learned a great deal with this tool-toy and love making web pages. I have sewn all my life, my Mom taught me how to sew on a machine and I've made clothes since I was a teenager. Wedding dresses didn't even stop me as I made mine and my sisters. I even taught myself to knit in college, crochet, and to cross stitch, my very favorite. A goal of mine is to complete all the angel patterns of Lavender & Lace by Marilyn Leavitt-Imblum. So far I have 3 done, and she has made 14 or 15 more. Whew!! I also love the designs of Shepherd's Bush. I enjoy cooking for large, important meals, like Christmas or St. Patrick's Day, but not for the day-to-day boring meals. I love to travel especially to see a Johnny Mathis concert and to meet up with my Mathis friends and I love to Swim. Our lake is quite cold so it takes a while to get used to the water.
Here are three of the cross stitch angels I have made.
I worked as a nurse so 41 1/2 years before I retired. For 20 years I was involved with cancer patients, both in giving chemotherapy in a clinic and serving as a volunteer in a Hospice setting. When we moved to Indiana in 1993, I became a home care nurse. That was a nice change and I learned so very much in the 10 years I was there. I made many new friends that I will never forget. Nursing has always been important to me, it's one of the things that makes my world go around. I have also taken the training for Parish Nursing and am just now using those skills in our church. I went to school at Concordia College for 2 years in a pre-nursing field. I still have close contact, after 45 years, with my friends at Concordia. I truly believe in the mission of Concordia College:
The purpose of Concordia College is to influence the affairs of the world by sending
into society thoughtful and informed men and women dedicated to the Christian life.I continued my nursing degree a Montana
State University, did my "training" at Deaconess Hospital in Billings, MT (it's now called the Billings Clnic) and now have retired from another Deaconess in Evansville, IN. You can click on each image for the home pages.
