Boo Boo Kitty

by Zoe the Wonder Cat

Once upon a midnight dreary, there lived a wee devilish kitten named Boo Boo. She was solid black with emerald green eyes that could peer into the supernatural or so it seemed. This pluckish sprite was constantly getting into trouble. If some foolish human left a glass of water sitting upon a tray, Boo Boo Kitty would sneak up on the glass and tip it over before anyone could catch the culprit. However, there were always the tell tale water stains on the carpet.

One day Boo Boo settled down in the kitchen in her favorite spot near the warm stove. Before long Boo Boo was sound asleep. As she snoozed, she began to dream of gossamer winged fairy cats dangling tuna treats in front of her nose. Just as she was about to snatch a morsel from a fairy, Boo Boo heard a loud crash! She hurriedly opened her eyes. Boo Boo couldn't believe what she saw!

There stood a gremlin cat! His green, smelly fur was all matted with what appeared to be pond algae. Two distinct horns grew out of his head. There were ugly, oozing sores all over his battled scarred face. The gremlin's eyes blazed an inferno red. He wore a tortured, mocking smile.

"Come here, my pretty little kitty!" the gremlin hissed. "I've got a special treat for you!" Boo Boo Kitty began to back cautiously away from the fiend.

The gremlin cat stretched forth his gnarled claw toward Boo Boo. The evil one made a beckoning motion toward the frightened Boo Boo. "Don't be afraid, my love. I have something nice to for you to eat. Then after you've had your fill, I plan to take you home with me. I live in a nice swamp with lots of frogs and snakes and other playthings that kitties love. Come to me."

The gremlin cat lunged at poor Boo Boo. Without thinking, Boo Boo flipped over backwards and knocked over a lamp in the process. Crash! The lamp shattered in a thousand tiny pieces.

As Boo Boo tried vainly to side step the broken glass, the monster took a swipe at the struggling kitty. Whoosh! Boo Boo ducked low, but she felt the razor sharp edge of the gremlin's claws against her neck.

Before long, the two cats were locked in mortal combat. Fur flew upwards toward the ceiling. The very air reverberated with the ungoldy howls of the struggling felines. The screams reached a feverish pitch, then quieted to a low growl.

At last the gremlin pinned the hapless Boo Boo in a corner. He was about to administer the final bite to her neck--the one that would end her very existence.

Suddenly a torrent of water rained down on the ghoul's head. He yelped in agony since no self respecting cat--monster or otherwise-- likes to get wet. With a twitch of his tail and the bat of an eyelash, the evil gremlin cat disappeared. Boo Boo Kitty was all alone, or was she?

"Wake up you silly cat," squealed seven year old Gretchen. "You've turned over my Kool Aid, and it's all in your fur."

With a gentle rubbing motion, she took a hand towel and wiped strawberry colored liquid from Boo Boo's sleepy eyes.

"That will teach you to spill my drink, and then go to sleep right in the middle of it. You'll have sticky paws for days."

Gretchen heaved a wistful sigh. "Come on Boo Boo. It's time to go out and play before it gets dark. When it's dark, I have to go trick or treating. And you don't want to be out on Halloween night. Bad things have been known to happen to black cats on this evening. Why a Boogie Cat might get you!"

"If you only knew," thought Boo Boo. "If you only knew!"
