THE STAR-SPANGLED BANNER

The National Anthem of the United States of America

Perhaps no other flag in American history is so well known as the one which flew over Fort McHenry in 1814 during the unsuccessful British bombardment. Francis Scott Key immortalized this flag in a poem that was sung as a patriotic song and became our national anthem in 1931. The flag is now displayed at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D.C.
