Sd.Kfz.260 and 261 were light armored radio cars based on same chassis and used the same body as other German light armored cars. Both models were unarmed and the only weapons were carried by 4 men crew. Sd.Kfz.260 was equipped with medium range radio set with a rod antenna, while Sd.Kfz.261 with long range radio set and frame antenna. 493 vehicles were produced in four series by Weserhuette and Ritscher from November of 1940 to April of 1943. They entered service in Spring of 1940 with Nachrichten (Signal) troops and remained in service to the end of the war. Both were replaced by halftracks performing the same role.
