| A simple cardboard wheel covering makes a wire or spoked wheel safe for your hamster to use. Although these traditional hamster wheels appear safe there is one crucial point which must be taken into consideration: your hamster's feet can get caught between the spokes while its running, twisting or breaking its leg. Here's an easy way to make your wheel safe. Materials: strip of cardboard (width of running track, slightly longer than circumference of wheel strong, thick, clear tape Procedure: 1. Completely cover the strip of cardboard with the tape to make it more waterproof and to provide grip. 2. Curve the covering around the outside of the wheel, so it covers all the spokes. Placing it outside the wheel will make use of the spokes for grip while eliminating the risk of injury. 3. Secure it using tape. Replace the covering if it becomes chewed up. |
