READING AN EEPROM

To read an eeprom while in the program:

        1. Either plug the eeprom into pin 8 of the IC socket ( aligning the IC key marking with the key marked on the IC socket) or plug the adapter into the IC socket ( make sure that pin 8 which has a red mini clip wire is aligned with the key on the IC socket). Then connect the following mini clips:

        2. If you are in the welcome screen just hit any key to go to the program. Hit "T" and a window will pop up showing the types of eeprom, for TV's scroll down with the arrow key to either 24C02 or 24C04. The eeprom already in the set will have the 24C number on the eeprom.

        3. Hit "R" and the program will read the eeprom and show a display on the screen similar to  the one when you go to frame "#4 program screen" on the left side. The display will show the data cell by cell in hexidecimal format.

        4. If unable to read an eeprom in-circuit try unsoldering pins 8,6 &5. Some circuits will load these pins down. Most RCA/GE models will read the eeproms without any unsoldering. Some Magnavox or Philips will need pin 8 unsoldered. The Zeniths that I worked on needed all 3 desoldered. Some Philips/Magnavox TVs will thwart the reading or programming of their eeproms by adding a protect code. To read these eeproms get a 8 pin socket and cut pin 7 off. Plug the eeprom in the socket and plug both into the programmer.
