Welcome to the world of Les Cinq Amis and Mind Mapping. This is one in a series of activities which will allow your students to work in cooperative groups of two on that "rainy" day or on a day when you may wish to take a break from the "routine" of the FSL classroom. This activity is based on one of the units from our grade 11 text book. You will have to adapt the ideas to your own text and the themes and vocabulary of its units.

Throughout Les Cinq Amis our friends are linked together by their interests, qualities, jobs, tastes, problems and pastimes. Your students will be allowed the opportunity to review, from a different and "fun" perspective, the vocabulary of the different units in which our friends make their début. I have endeavoured at all stages to integrate the themes and vocabulary of our different units.

The activity which you are about to see deals with the future.

This activity is very challenging for the students and equally challenging for the teacher to put together.

Here's how it works! The students read and answer the clues (See QUESTIONS POUR LES ELEVES below) which are looped and linked in an intricate way. Patience is the order of the day! They record the information on the sheet (See FICHE DE TRAVAIL below) by the side of the appropriate category. If their answers are accurate, there will be four boxes in the table with no information entered. This will then enable them to answer the four questions beneath the table.

To move from a strictly reading/writing exercise to a listening/speaking exercise, students may be asked to create (and write) four additional questions based on other information in the table. They are given the opportunity to ask their questions to the whole class or to other groups of students.

Another activity which your students may enjoy is to expand the information they have obtained on any given character by adding two serious and two "silly" details. They then prepare a mind map based on that particular character and one or two members of the group will present the mind map to the class or to another group.

Below, you will find in the following order:

1. The question sheet for the students.

2. The empty table for the students with the four questions below. This is the students' worksheet.

3. An answer sheet, for your eyes only!
