I hope you enjoy this idea for a dramatic presentation of Jacques Prévert's poem
"Le Déjeuner du Matin". If you have forgotten the poem or have never seen it, you can find it here: Déjeuner du Matin
LE TRAVAIL - INSTRUCTIONS
You will find that each individual performance is different and expresses the feelings and emotions of the poem in its own unique way. Enjoy!
- Put students into groups of two.
- Give the groups an overhead sheet, pens and have them copy Prévert's Déjeuner du Matin using as many colours as possible. The students may add pictures or illustrations if they wish.
- One of the students will read the poem from the overhead to the class while the other will act it out by sitting at a table using all of the appropriate props.
- Because the student who acts out the poem does no speaking, here is what I do to get a speaking mark for her/him. Before the students act out the poem, I have the actor do the following: She/he tells the class what three colours the poem is painted in and why. They have to bring in the colours (sometimes they wear them!) Next they tell the class what actor and actress are portraying the roles and two reasons why. Finally, they let us know what music will accompany the reading of the poem and why. The students bring in a cassette or CD of the music and play it softly in the background while the poem is being read.
