August 2007 to September 2008. SAILL Charter School, Austin, Texas. Director of Special Education. Scheduled/conducted ARD meetings. Supervised school SPED budget. Supervised SPED department.
April 2001 to September 2008. Technology And Inclusion, Austin, Texas. Part-time Consultant. Worked with clients in their homes to increase inclusion through the use of assistive technology. Developed and goals/objectives and maintained work logs.
October 1992 to Sept 2008. Round Rock Independent School District, Round Rock, Texas.
Teacher/Department Co-Chair. Department Co-Chair 2000- August 2004. Maintained budget, conducting department meetings, maintaining schedules of staff & students. Taught all subjects in a middle school self-contained classroom for students with emotional disturbances. Co-taught in general education classrooms to enhance inclusion of students with special learning needs. Taught resource math for students with learning, emotional, and developmental disabilities. Texas School For The Deaf, Austin, TX. Teacher/ Associate Teacher. Self-contained classroom of multihandicapped/deaf students. Instructed all areas: functional academics, communication, on- and off-campus work training, social skills, community awareness, domestic and leisure skills. Participated in IEP development, ARD process, parent contacts, behavioral programming, and data collection. Weekend Duty Supervisor/ Resident Educator. Overall management of residential program for deaf children. This included activity planning, coordination
of transportation, scheduling and supervising staff, crisis intervention, and counseling in educational, financial, vocational, and personal goals. Acted as liaison between school, staff, parents, community, and administration.
April 1982 to December 1983.
Hill Country Community Residence, Cedar Park, TX. Community Residence Supervisor. Provided direct care to males with mental retardation in an ICFMR group home setting. This included independent living skills training in menu/meal preparation, home/leisure time management, and interpersonal skills, also data collection, transportation, and documentation.
August 1981 to October 1992. Travis County Services for the Deaf, Austin, TX. Interpreter. Contract interpreting for deaf persons in a variety of settings including educational, medical and others.
August 1979 to September 1981. Texas School for the Blind, Austin, TX. Houseparent. Provided direct care to adolescent males who were multihandicapped/blind in a residential setting, included guidance in socialization and self-help skills, activity planning, conferring with students/parents on progress in IEP goals, and clerical duties.
January 1979 to June 1979. Vaughn House Workshop, Austin, TX. Vocational Training Supervisor. Training individuals that were deaf/multihandicapped in janitorial, work adjustment, signing, and basic on-the-job skills. Responsible for payroll and progress records.
February 1978 to February 1979. Austin State School, Austin, TX. Therapist Technician I. Involved in training individuals with mental retardation in the operation of woodshop machinery (i.e., drills, power sanders, and pneumatic nail guns) and the handling of tools and supplies. Trained and supervised delivery crew in handling, stacking, and identifying materials. Responsible for monthly and yearly documentation of training for assigned clients. MHMR Aide-Special Projects Unit. Conducted fine and gross motor skills training, basic self-help and orientation/mobility for blind males with severe/profound mental retardation.
1976. Volunteer work. Stephen F. Austin State University, Nacogdoches, TX. Field experience with Rusk County YMCA National Youth Project Using Minibikes (NYPUM)-a drop-out prevention program for 13-17 year-olds. Duties included individual and family counseling,
supervising recreational activities, and teaching mechanical maintenance.
