The Pink Jeep - Comfortable way to travel, knowledgeable pleasant driver, - a good way to tour!
An old dam on the side trip to the Valley Of Fire State Park.
THE SEVEN SISTERS
There are 7 stone outcroppings like this right next to each other, hence, the "& Sisters." You can see they have put little picnic areas in the shade under them!
FAWNA!
These chubby lizards would scurry into a hole & blow themselves up. The Indians would have a stick with a sharp prick on the end so they could POP the lizard, pull it out & eat it. Besides a couple birds, this was the only example of local fawna we saw. Of course, it was mid-day, most of the local fawna comes out during cooler times of the day.
EXAMPLES OF EROSION!
The wind & water create a lot of erosion This can create images in our mind, like dinosaur heads, poodles heads, there is one that looks like an elephant!
"BEEHIVES"
One of the "Beehives" at the Valley Of Fire State Park.
A beehive & the pink jeep.
THE ROCKS
"CHOCOLATE!"
Notice how the light colored rock layer & the brown layer bump up against each other, reminding us of chocolate & vanilla ice cream...of course it WAS hot & we WERE getting hungry...!
PETROGLYPHS
The circles probably mean "You are close to water."
This is probably a hunt for the bighorn sheep in the area.
A cactus? A representation of a spear/sword from the Spanish conquestiadors?
Aa shaman, or perhaps an alien visitor (this area is famous for that sort of activity...?)
MOUSE'S TANK
Mouse's Tank was mentioned in the sign. This is where a "renegade" Indian hid from a posse (there is water in the tank, & circle petroglyphs to tell you that!)
