GARETH PUGH

Gareth Pugh’s shows bring out the A-list and have won him much admiration for his extraordinary creative vision. After graduating from Central St. Martins in 2003 Sunderland born Pugh was selected to show alongside Stella McCartney, D&G and Hussein Chalayan at the 2004 Dazed and Confused exhibition. He has also assisted Rick Owens at luxury furrier Revillon. The illuminated, architectural dress from his S/S 2006 collection became the focus of an HSBC advertising campaign. They used it as a vehicle to challenge set attitudes – which is entirely in keeping with Pugh’s approach to design. He previously showed as part of Fashion East. The Collections His viewpoint is utterly original, humorous and theatrical in a futuristic way. He inflates PVC to create voluminous coat shapes; scissors bold patchwork squares into an optical frenzy of a dress; links Perspex discs to create a mad chain-mail shroud. Add shiny latex second-skin masks and leggings plus dizzying platforms and a sci-fi mood is complete. This is no student effort – the clothes/costumes are immaculately made. The News His first real selling collection of signature pieces will be available at Dover Street Market in London and Seven in New York.
