Chapter 7

In the morning, there were more smiles. “Hawthorne! How did you manage that? We were only in the hospital two days ago.” Breathless, she shouted, “We were only married yesterday! How did you get them to do this?”

Dory was flabbergasted to see that on the porch sat another expression of his love. Out on the porch, Hawthorne had somehow managed to get them to switch out the old railing for a new one. The railing Hawthorne had added was twisted and scrolled into bird and flower shapes. In the middle, a gold-plated piece had been added to the center, and it said, "I love you, Dory."

She was amazed at her husband’s love for her. As she considered the amazing blessing that this man had become in her life, tears began to flow. She felt like a princess and could only imagine what other surprises awaited her during this honeymoon.

Surprisingly, Dory realized that she was looking forward to what life she had left for her. With Hawthorne, every day was like a dream. Hoping to savor it a little longer, Dory rushed into his arms, mutely thanking him for his thoughtfulness. Rubbing his chin over the top of her head, he said, "Oh, honey, did that impress you? No, ma’am, that’s not all. This is just the beginning!" And truly, it was.
