Crafty Ballet Ideas
This section of the site is for those of you who are crafty and love ballet knick-knacks. These are a few ideas and if you have any more, please E-mail me at the link at the bottom. I will try to update this section monthly, so check back.
If you have an old pair of tights (maybe a little holey), you can turn it into a practice top with just a pair of scissors! Cut out the feet and the crotch and you're done! Sounds a little strange, but trust me, it looks great! (In case you're a little slow like me, your head goes through the ex-crotch and your arms go through the leg holes). Try it in an array of colors and try fishnet tights.

Make a goodie basket out of inexpensive items for a dancer. Find a cool container (old baskets, tins or dance bags work great) and put in things such as: medical tape, scissors, toe pads, miniature toeshoes, ballet calender, ballet CD's, dance catalog gift certificates, leg warmers, dance magazines, notepads, or anything else you can think of. For additional effect, wrap toe shoe ribbons around the basket. Many of these items can be found at Discount Dance. Drop in a good luck note and it becomes a good-luck-at-dance-camp basket!

Stationary
To make your very own, very cute ballet stationary, just find some old dance magazines and catalogs, some rubber cement or glue stick, and plain paper of any color. Cut out pictures of toe shoes, costumes, people, or anything else you like. Paste this around the paper as a cool border. For more effect, put another picture on the envelope as a seal.

Hair Stuff
Keeping up with all your hair stuff for the perfect bun can be difficult. The best tip is to use an old jewlry box (the little cardboard ones they give you in the store) or even a small tin. I use a doubles sided lipstick holder designed to hold two lipsticks and keep all my bobbi pins on one side, and hairnets on the other.
Just an idea: if you want to make your bun just a little prettier, you can put beads on the end of your bobbi pins so that when you put them in your bun, there are little beads framing your bun!
Emergency Kit
This is a dancers emergency kit. Take a small makeup bag and fill it with things such a toe tape, scissors, extra toe pads, hair nets and pins, scrunchies, tylenol, toe clippers, needle and tread, band-aids, safety pins, pay phone money, and any thing else you may need in an emergancy. This is a great gift for dressing room friends, beginning dancers, or get one together for yourself.

Alignment Belt
Instead of paying three dollars to buy one, make your own hip alignment belt to help see if your hips are straight. Take an old pair of tights, any color, and cut off the elastic at the waist, and that's it! Pull it on over your leotard and you're set!

Toe Shoe Rack
If you have an old coat rack, paint it to match your room and paint on pointe shoes or have your friends sign it with permanant marker. Then tie the laces of pointe shoes and hang on the hooks. Get your friends to sign some of their old shoes and do a shoe exchange and hang your friends' autographed shoes from your new rack!!
