POETRY
SHINE

I see you beneath
The sky
The moon
So blue
Dancing across the grass
Warm with regret
Hands outstretched
Catching tears
Like shooting stars without wishes
Telling yourself that not every dream should come true
Telling yourself that not every dance is just plain joyful
And I want to scream
Hold onto those wishes and dreams
Hold them close to your still beating heart
Don’t drop them off at the end of the road at the end of the day and and say it's been nice knowing you... goodbye
Don’t give up on shooting stars
Stand tall and strong and look for that glow
You may not know it but
The four leaf clover is next in line
The rabbit will come up missing a foot
You may not know it but
The black cat will stop right in the nick of time
Don’t give up on shooting stars and wishes and dreams
Just Shine

Welcome Home

Tromped through
Leaves churned by Western winds
Follow me to Nebraska
Running across the lonesome streets like toddlers
Without a thought of traffic
Scooped up and tossed into the sky
Scattering to settle into
Quilt blocks of red, browns and yellows
A blanket of home sweet home to welcome

Hiding Beneath Your Skin

The jazz in my head
Summons me play
Black and white keys
Spread across the flame of night
Burning embers
Glow sending flames
Hot through fingers as they dance

Wish I could sing you like a song
I've always known
Wish I could play you like a song
I've always heard
Wish the nights of quiet contemplation
Weren't so awful long

Moon light under sprinkles of stars
Your skin glows
Pearls on satin gloves
Yet you cry unabashed your head raised to the heavens
Howling at the unjustice of it all
No more candy apple red
No more songs sung outside your head
You turn inside out
Hiding beneath your skin
Skipping stones are tossed no more
The feathers that flew along the path
Linger then fall
No longer held there by your breath
Along the rocky canyon bed you stray
Searching for a rhyme and a reason, to make you want to stay

Wish I could sing you like a song
I've always known
Wish I could play you like a song
I've always heard
Wish the nights of quiet contemplation
Weren't so awful long

I've seen you beneath the shade of the trees
dancing joylessly
waiting for the rain
I've seen you wishing on the stars
late at night
staring at the heavens
angry come the morning light

Wish I could sing you like a song
I've always known
Wish I could play you like a song
I've always known
Wish the night of quiet contemplation
Weren't so awful long
