SCOTCH TAPED DREAMS

Scotch taped to my refrigerator
Lists of needs and wants and honey do's
Notes about dentist appointments
Carpool dates to drive
Phone numbers never called but someday might
Pizza hut delivery days
Coupon for a facial(damn...expired)
"Helens Beauty Emporium and Pet Shop...we do bikini waxing too!"
Note from library about books(wayyy overdue)
5,000 homemade magnets (bless the bible school teachers heart)
Pictures of the kids...some of 'em...even mine
But on the corner tucked behind an advertisement for "Weight Loss Patch - Tried and True!"
Endorsed by a famous chubby football coaches wife
Scotch taped there for private view
An island paradise dream vacation
Oceans blue; sands of silky white
Picture so vivid eyes squint in sunlight
When doing dishes by the fridge hands immersed in frothy white of suds...
Dream of swimming naked in the sea water lapping my wet skin tanned and salty
Hear the seagulls call as float lazily by
And just as day dreams had me resting on the satin beach so smooth...kids come flying down the stairs - one is yelling one is smiling the other hangs his head boo hooing

Ah well...this the life for me
Busy home fighting kids and scotch taped dreams of swimming seas

PORCH DREAMS IN ROSE SCENTED AIR

Darkness begins to blur the day into a comfortable light
and we sit on the porch together
drinking some wine
sipping and talking about kids, weather, sports...
whatever...
The twilight is so fine
Cars go by
We talk about who is cruising and who likes who and laugh at the youngsters sneaking smokes and the Good Old Days when we used to drive around and everything was...oh...so urgent, important...reeking of hormones and pimple cream...
Everyone laughs and says "I wouldn't want to go through those days again!"
We drink a Toast to that!
"Damn Straight"
After awhile, when drinks are gone and talk has dwindled someone yawns and...the party is over
Everybody goes home..."Babysitters to pay"..."Got to work in the morning"..."My back is aching...
"Goodbye"..."So long"... "Lets do the barbeque thing sometime soon"
Car doors slam
All are gone
But me
I sit on the porch swing and sway
Just plain old reminiscing...about days of old
When it was I in the car who couln't wait for that guy to smile at me...inching my hand closer for him to hold (accidentaly), thrilling to the touch - flirting and wanting him to kiss me...
Ahhhh those silly sweet memories
I sit and push the swing with my toes and wonder about old loves from long ago
Do they ever think of me? or am I an old wisp of a ghost...a haunt
Then I catch the scent of rose...and there in front of me...you...holding out a beautiful  bloom - just beginning to open
You hold me close and I kissed your lips and as we go into the house hand in hand
I think to myself... I wouldn't want to go through those days again...and thoughts of flames lit long ago vanished
as swiftly as a breath of rose scented air
