| BIRTHDATE: January 24, 1970 BIRTHPLACE: Lansing, Michigan MARITAL STATUS: Married WHY HE DESERVES HIS BIG BREAK: Like Jamie Kennedy, Matthew Lillard has a face that deserves to be seen. Not because he's particularly handsome or anything, but just because he's got such a unique persona and appearance that he deserves credit just for being himself. Born in Michigan but raised predominantly in California, Lillard worked extensively on the stage before making his film debut in, all of things, Ghoulies 3: Ghoulies Go to College (1991). He was chosen to play Kathleen Turner's son in the John Waters comedy Serial Mom. However, not until 1996's Scream, when he played tag team murderer Stu Macher did Matthew Lillard really gain prominence. Though he could easily make a lifetime career out of playing strangely appealing goofballs in such films as Senseless and She's All That, he's also recently played surprisingly charming leading men in the underrated SLC Punk! (1999) and Kenneth Branagh's production of Love's Labour's Lost (2000). He may never win a role like Leonardo DiCaprio's in Titanic, but hey, who would ever describe Leo as "strangely appealing" or "surprisingly charming"? |
