A RUM LOT OF TROUBLE
by Sarah

Chapter 1

It was the day after the wedding and Will sat by the dock. His focus flitted between the medallion and gazing out at the bay. It was a futile thought that by earnestly looking out into the bay the black pearl and its crew would come sailing into port. He pondered on several nagging questions that needed answering, `What was the meaning of the mysterious note?' `Why was a the medallion left for him if it was meant for him?' and `How did his obviously ill father escape from the room undetected?' One person could only answer these questions but that person was not about to go waltzing into Port Royal in broad daylight.

"Some thing on your mind dear-e-e?" said a voice from behind him. Will turned round to see a hideous old hag standing there.

"Go away! I don't want to buy anything your selling."

The old woman leaned closer to him, she smelt of rotting fish.

"Well that's no way to talk to your elders. Savvy?" said the old woman. Will turned round was taken aback slightly, standing in front of him was the ugliest creature, it even had facial hair. He recognised his pirate friend even with the disguise.

"Sparrow!"

"Shush! Do you want the whole island to know I'm here?" Will and Sparrow both noticed the two marines heading in their direction.

"Follow my lead," whispered Will. The marines passed by them and Will started talking his voice slightly louder than usual, "I will gladly buy your wonderful flowers, wench. How much does it cost?" "Only 5 shillings, sir." Replied Sparrow in a high-pitched voice. The marines walked past unconcerned. They were too busy talking amongst themselves. They waited until the marines had walked back past them before they relaxed.

"Where have you been? I have a lot of questions I need answered."

"Whoa! One thing at a time."

"What did you do with my father?" asked Will angrily.

"What did I do with him? I didn't have to do anything he can look after himself well enough."

"Is he still alive?"

"Of course. Don't tell me you were fooled by our little ruse."

"A ruse? But the doctor said-,"

"Bill's got a talent for acting, something you don't seem to have inherited. I-,"

Sparrow's answer was cut short. A shrill female voice reached them, "Will! Is sneaking out and leaving me alone the way to treat your wife?"

Elizabeth marched over her face like thunder, "Why did you-, who's the old woman?"

"Nice to see you again too Miss, Mrs Elizabeth." Said Sparrow with a cheeky wink.

"I cannot say the feeling is mutual. We always end up in trouble when you are around, captain."

"Why thank you. It's nice to know I create a little excitement to your life."

"Why are you here? What have you got planned this time?"

"It's just a small proposition. A chance for wealth beyond your wildest dreams but you probably wouldn't be interested." Said Sparrow dismissively with a wave of his hand.
