The Boy

For my brother Harold,
written by his wife, Elaine.

He caught my attention back in
1962

He was 6ft. and I was 5ft. 2.
My eyes are brown, his are blue,
That was quite a year, was 62.
All through high school we dated,
We couldn't bear to be separated.

In 1966 we were wed,
"It will never last," everyone said.
He spent 2 yrs. with Uncle Sam
Who sent him off to a foreign land.
Across the ocean and the deep blue sea,
To be with him, I went to Germany.

1968, our daughter, Dana, was born
to us,
Over one baby girl, there was such
a fuss!
Dark hair and brown eyes, she took
after me,
But she was daddy's little darlin'
upon his knee.

1970 was a good year,
It brought us Tereasa, who is such a dear,
Blonde hair and blue eyes, as shy as could be,
She liked to hide behind her granny and me.

The girls are all grown up, with families
of their own,
Four grandchildren they've given us,
boy has time simply flown.
More than 30 years have gone past,
But everyone said it wouldn't last.

Our faces are wrinkled and our hair has
turned gray,
We beat the odds, together we'll stay.
Through laughter, tears, heartache and joy,
I still catch glimpses of that young,
dark-haired, blue-eyed boy!
