Map of Prospect Hill Cemetery

Founded by German immigrants in 1858, Prospect Hill Cemetery is located 22 blocks directly north of the Capitol of the United States. Now in the midst of urban Washington, DC, when founded it was in the countryside outside city limits. The cemetery is the final resting place for more than 14,000 persons.

The cemetery is open Thursdays through Mondays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. It remains a working cemetery, having about six interments each year. It is maintained by a volunteer Board of Trustees and the resident superintendent. The cemetery is a non-profit 501(c)(13) organisation. Having no supporting foundation or organization, its existence is made possible primarily through contributions of descendants of those buried in these dedicated grounds.
