Ur Nammu, Third Dynasty of Ur

All available readings for Sumerian signs in Kurt Jaritz' Schriftarchäologie der altmesopotamischen Kultur(1) (1967) are listed in the Sumerian Sign Value Register.

Arranged by the sign numbers from that register, Sumerian archaic sign forms where available courtesy of Dr. Antonio Reguera Feo, are displayed below.
The signs are also available in Sumerian Archaic Sign Table by pressing the corresponding number in that Table if the number is highlighted.
Signs may be copied, if desired, by placing
the cursor on the archaic sign, pressing
the right mouse button to display a menu containing
"Save Picture as"), and saving the .jpg.

If the sign is composed of two or more signs, the numbers for the component signs will appear under that table number; and, if the component signs are available individually, they will be highlighted.

If the later cuneiform sign is derived from several different archaic signs, each archaic sign will be shown, if available, by pressing on the highlighted letters behind the sign number.

1. The sign numbers are those of Jaritz' Schriftarchäologie der altmesopotamischen Kultur (1967). Unfortunately, the register materials in this book were not carefully proofed before publication so an unknown number of errors are present. I have made many corrections as I have found them but there are undoubtedly more errors present. Where I have discovered a questionable sign number assignment for a reading, I have placed a question mark after it. In some cases, the sign reading or its proper subscript may be in question, or the subscript may not be known by me, which sign reading also bears a question mark.

2. {DIG~IR} Nin-zu-g~ir2 {DIG~IR} Nina-Ur g~al-lu2 šir-bur-la (=Lagaš) dumu Gu-ni-du ud eš3-Zu-G~ir2 mu-du3 a mu-ru. e2 {DIG~IR} Nina mu-du3; g~al-ib mu-du3; ki-nir mu-du3; ba-ga mu-du3; e2-dam mu-du3; e2 Ga2-tum3-dug3 mu-du3; ti-aš2(agx)-ra mu-du3.

When Ur-{GOD}Nina (servant of {GOD}Nina, Lady of the Water), king of Lagash (šir-bur-la, 'abundance of lamps'), son of Gu-ni-du (possibly Akkadian: cf. Arabic jundi:yun, 'soldier'), verily built the temple of G~irzu (sword-skill), verily (he) dedicated (it) to Ning~irzu (Lady of Sword Skill). (He) verily built the House of {GOD}Nina; (he) verily built the Great Weir; (he) verily built the Orchard; (he) verily built the Dairy; (he) verily built the House of the Wives; (he) verily built the House of Gatumdug (Sweet Bearer of the Cup); (and he) verily built the Archery Range (ti-ra-ašagx).
