The Papoea volunteers korps
(PVK) were a korps that entirely existing
from Papoea's on 21 February 1961 were set up to
contribution to the
maintaining of Dutch new Guinea against the infiltration
of the
indonesian army. The establishment of the korps was
approved by the
Dutch council of ministers in December 1959, and the
korps had act as
semi-militaire a police force. THE PVK were composed
papoea's of
several volken, and stood under commando of colonel of
the mariniers
W.A.van Heuven. As an emblem the PVK chose kasuaris, the
korps devies
were Persevero (I persist).
THE PVK were armed and were equipped with kaki-uniform,
and a cap of
which the linker edge was omhoog gevouwen, and had been
dressed with
PVK LOGO
the PVK emblem and a pluim. In 1961-1962 the PVK under
the indonesian
threat were increased strongly extended. After the
governing board
transfer to the United Nations (UNTEA) and then the next
indonesian
governing board (1962-1963) the PVK were dissolved. The
members were
dismissed. Some joined later the indonesian army.
Others, among which
sergeant Ferry Awom aimed started, guerrilla legertje
on, the
Organisasi Papua Merdeka (OPM), and a fight for
independence against
the indonesian army.
