He was residing in Battle Creek Mich. at the outbreak of the war.
On the 10 (25) May 1861, age of 23, he enlisted, as private, in Company "C" of the 2nd Michigan Infantry in Battle Creek Mich. .
Also Marked as belonging to Company D.
He was taken as a Prisoner Of War (POW) at Charles City Cross Roads Va. on June 30th 1862. He was Released. He returned to the regiment in August 1862.
He re-enlisted in December of 1863.
He was promoted to Hospital Steward on 01 May 1865.
He was Mustered Out on the 28th of July 1865 at Delaney House DC.
He died of Natural Causes in 1912 and was laid to rest at the Pinetree Cemetery in Shiawasee Co., Mich.
There is Fragment of a diary (Feb. 10-23, 1864) with short entries of events occurring on his way home on re-enlistment furlough.
