He was one of the new men, but promoted to Sergeant almost immediately.
He suffered a gunshot wound of right foot on May 31 1864. The hospital notes say it was an accident. He was admitted to Gen. Hospital June 4 1864. Hospital notes say accident while on picket duty, wound was doing well up until June 17th when it became infected.
He died of infection June 21 1864 in Emory Hospital in DC. His death certificates note possessions as uniform and a pocketbook containing $1.46.
