At the outbreak of the Civil War he was living in Lenawee Co. Mich.
He was 23 years old when he enlisted in the 2nd Michigan Infantry Company D on April 25th 1861.
He served as a Private in the regiment until July 18th 1864.
After the war he moved to South Dakota.
He became a member of Freeman Thayer GAR Post #. 59 Watertown Codington Co., SD.
