Sergeant Major July 16 1861. Commissioned Second Lieutenant company G March 17 1862. Commissioned First Lieutenant and Adjutant Dec. 1 1862. Mustered to date Dec. 6 1862. Killed in action at Knoxville Tenn. Nov. 24 1863. Served with marked distinction and gallantry as Aid-de-Camp and Provost Marshal no the staff of the Division Commander Major General Philip Kearney in the Peninsular and Second Bull Run Campaigns until the death of General Kearney at Chantilly Va. Sept. 2 1862 (Descriptive Roll Second Michigan Volunteers).
