Post Civil War Regiment

125th Infantry Regiment

”YIELD TO NONE”

Organized 24 December 1857 and 4 January 1858 as the fast Saginaw Guards (Co. H) and Flint Union Greys (Co. F). two independent volunteer militia companies.

Consolidated with other volunteer Militia companies and reorganized 25 April 1861 as the 2d Michigan Volunteer Infantry.

Mustered into Federal service at Detroit 25 May 1861; reenlisted in January 1864 as the 2d Michigan Veteran Infantry; mustered out 29 July 1865 at Delaney House, District of Columbia.

Reorganized 1872-1874 in the Flint area as independent volunteer militia companies of IV State Troops. Assigned to the 2d Infantry, Michigan State Troops, 6 July 1874.

Companies in 1 area detached from the 2d Infantry and reorganized 19 May 1876 as the 3d Infantry, Michigan Troops.

Redesignated as 33d Michigan Volunteer Infantry and mustered into Federal service 1898 at Island Lake; served in Cuba and mustered out 9 November 1898 - 6 January 1899.

Reorganized and redesignated 10 July 1899 as the 3d Infantry, Michigan National Guard Redesignated 22 April 1915 as the 33d Infantry, Michigan National Guard.

Mustered into Federal service 19 June 1916 for Mexican Border and-stationed at El Paso Texas; not mustered out.

Drafted into Federal service 5 August 1917. Consolidated with the 1st Battalion 31st Infantry, Michigan National Guard, Reorganized and redesignated as the 125th Infantry it assigned to the 32d Division 30 September 1917.

Demobilized 22 May 1919 at Camp Custer Michigan.

Reorganized and Federally recognized 26 January 1922; concurrent assigned to the 32d Division. Inducted into Federal service 15 October 1940 at Flint.

Relieved the 32d Division 8 December 1941.

Inactivated 20 September 1945 at Camp Rucker, Alabama.

Assigned to the 46th Infantry Division 31 May 1946; concurrently 1st Battalion expanded and redesignated as the 425th Infantry and new 1st Battalion constituted.

Reorganized and Federally recognized l2 January l947.

Relieved the 46th Infantry Division 15 March 1959 and reorganized as the 125th Infantry, a parent Regiment under the Combat Arms Regimental System.
