Young John L.

Co. "H" & "G"

  • John L. Young was residing in Pymouth at the outbreak of the Civil War. He enlisted, at age 25, as a Sgt. in Company "H" of the 2nd Michigan Infantry on the 10th of May 1861 in Fort Wayne Mich.

    He was transfered to Co. "G" He was promoted to QM Sgt. on 17 December 1861.

    The promoted to 2nd Lt. on 06 March 1862.

    Promoted to 1st Lt. on 01 August 1862.

    And his last promotion was to Capt on 01 December 1862.

    He died from Shot through the heart (KIA) in Petersburg Va. on the 30th of July 1864 at the age 28.

    He was laid to rest in the Pearl Street Cemetery in the City of Plymouth Michigan. (Old Baptist Cemetery Plymouth, Michigan)
