At the outbreak of the Civil War she was visiting her father in Detroit Michigan. She became the daughter of the 2nd Michigan and acted as the Vivandiere of the unit. She joined them in Detroit and left for the field with them.
She was highly loved not only by her regiment but also by the Brigade that the 2nd belonged to. When all Ladies were asked to return home the brigade filed a petition with the commander to make an exception of her.
When the 2nd Michigan moved to Tennessee she went with the 3rd Michigan which had many of her friends in it. She was active in every battle that this regiment was in. At the end of her 3 year term she followed the ones who re-enlisted to the 5th Michigan.
Annie was to be awarded a rank but General Keyrney died before he could make it official. She was tho awarded the Keyrneys Cross.
Her History is long and I have found plenty on her in 1 book. It is much simpler for me to let you read the book. You may find the extracts by Clicking on HERE.
