SPEAKING FOR GOD
Jeremiah 23: 18. But which of them has stood in the council of the LORD to see or to hear his word?
Who has listened and heard his word?
The chief problem of the prophets here was that they were more interested in
saying what will please the people than what will please God. Listen, ministry
is not about saying nice things to men.
No, ministry is simply standing in the council room of God long enough
to hear "his word" . To see his heart - what he wants to say to men
and then declaring it to men. Men do not need nice words, they need to hear from God. Beware of multiplying
words of peace without being sure if God is speaking. Or else men will soon
abandon you when they discover the false hope you have given them. Make it your
habit therefore before speaking on behalf of God (as you must speak often, nay
always as a man of God), to ask in an attitude of prayer "Lord what would
you have me say?".
"I did not send these prophets, yet they have run with their message"
(v.21) It is good to have zeal and to be able to run with the vision but it is
very important to first ascertain that the origin of the vision is God. When we run with a message or vision that
is not from God we would need to rely only on our sweat because the wind of God
will not be behind us to propel us.
"But if they had stood in my council, they would have proclaimed my
words"(v.22) It is not a waste of time to wait for God - to wait on God
until we fully can discern his mind. Instead of running off without being sure
wait and risk being late because you want a word from God.A word from God is
enough to solve any situation.
