Don’t Seem To Pay

Honesty just don’t seem to pay.

I’ll take a clear conscious any day!

I can look the world in the face,

No fear of persecution or disgrace!

Now I do what I feel is right.

I have no trouble sleeping at night!

Some may alibi their action and deed,

Do what is right, there’ll be no need!

I still believe in the golden rule.

I stick to it like a stubborn mule!

I may not get far in this world today.

Honesty is the best, but it don’t seem to pay!

I want what is rightfully mine.

Touch not, and we will get along fine!

I want credit when I am right;

Or blame for my wrong, last night!

One day I will stand before the King.

I’ll stand proud, my heart will sing,

Because I haven’t taken illegal gain!

Widows and orphans I’ve brought no pain!

Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you; not as the world giveth, give I unto you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. ~John 14:27
