There was a family who lived on the farm. They had all kinds of animals. They had a little girl named Peggy. She had a cat she loved very much. Her older brother was full of mischief and threw her cat in the pond, not knowing cats could swim. The younger children and Peggy cried and cried.
Peggy got a matchbox and dug a grave. She and the younger children were having a funeral for Peggy’s beloved cat. They were singing and telling what a wonderful cat Kitty was when Peggy felt some soft fur brush her legs.
Peggy looked down, and to her surprise, Kitty was alive! The children were all so happy! Peggy took Kitty in her arms and stroked her damp fur. “Now we don’t need Kitty’s grave,” Peggy said. The younger brother made use of the matchbox and fresh–dug earth as he played all day with the matchbox as his maintainer. He was happy doing construction work; but not as happy as Peggy and her pet Kitty was!
