LONELY MAN
An old man lived all alone in a rundown shack. All the children were afraid to go near him. The old man barely had enough to eat; but worse than that, he was very lonely.
One
day, the old man caught some fish for his supper in a nearby stream. It was a good catch. The old man was proud; but hated to eat
alone. But he had no one to share his
good fortune with
The
old man had almost finished cooking the fish when a cat, who had smelled them,
came up to see the old man. He said,
“Well, I won’t have to eat alone, you may share my supper with me!”
The
old man and cat had just finished eating when two little boys and a girl
appeared calling, Here Tabby, here Tabby!”
Seeing their cat with the old man, the children were frightened.
The
old man spoke gently to them saying, “I was lonely when your cat came to share
my supper with me so I wouldn’t have to eat alone. The old man smiled a toothless grin. This put the children at ease.
Soon the old man had children, cats and dogs from far and near visiting
him. He was no longer lonely. Now he had friends.
