A father brought some wolf pups home as the mother was killed in a hunt. The son, named Fred, was to help tend and feed the wolf cubs. One cub in particular responded to Fred even more than the others. The father warned Fred not to get too attached to the cubs as they would have to go to the game reserve when they were older.
Soon the cubs were older and one was very playful. Fred had grown to love the cub he named Wolf. The father told Fred it would soon be time for the cubs to go to the game reserve. Fred begged his father to let him keep Wolf, the mischievous, playful cub. The father finally consented to let Fred keep Wolf.
Fred and Wolf frolliced and played day after day. Then one day a neighbor came and told Fred's father that Wolf was killing his chickens. Fred couldn't believe Wolf would steal chickens as he kept wolf wellfed.
A second farmer came and told fred's father Wolf had killed several of his chickens, also. Fred's father made Fred pin Wolf up in the barn or he would have to kill Wolf. Fred begged his father not to kill Wolf, so he was locked up.
The next day the farmers came to Fred's father and told him that they had killed the wolf who had killed thier chickens. This made Fred happy to know it wasn't his Wolf; but father told Fred that Wolf would have to go to the game reserve and that Fred could visit him anytime. Wolf was happy to roam with other wolves instead of being penned in the barn!
